Biofuels Hull Project - Transcar Case Study

Updated: Aug 23

Client: UK Biofuels Company
Location: UK
Service Provided: Turnkey Project Logistics Management

Project Overview

Transcar Projects was contracted to handle the shipment of a large Biofuels project in the UK. This included four large columns which were critical components of the biofuel production infrastructure, which were manufactured in India and required careful transportation to the UK. The columns were notably large enough to necessitate a charter vessel for their transport. Upon arrival in the UK, the columns were offloaded onto specialist heavy haulage vehicles for delivery to the project site.

The Challenge

In order that the units could enter the site, the team also had to come up with a solution for an obstacle: a height restriction due to a pipe rack that made it impossible for the columns to pass through the final access point. This challenge required innovative problem-solving to ensure the safe and timely delivery of the components, without compromising the project's tight schedule.

Engineered Solution

Transcar Projects engineered a bespoke solution to overcome the height restriction. The solution involved jacking each column down onto a specially designed Teflon skidding system. This system allowed the columns to slide under the height restriction smoothly. Once the columns had cleared the pipe racks, they were jacked back up to their original height and transported to the final installation point within the site.

The use of the Teflon skidding system not only provided a practical solution to the height restriction but also ensured that the columns were handled with the utmost care throughout the process. This approach minimized the risk of damage, maintaining the integrity of the columns during the complex maneuvering process.

Outcome

Thanks to Transcar Projects' expertise and innovative problem-solving, the columns were delivered to the site and successfully installed without delay. The ability to adapt quickly to challenges underscores the value of choosing a logistics partner with deep experience and technical knowledge. The biofuels project in the UK benefitted from a seamless transition of equipment from manufacturing to installation, helping the client maintain its project timeline and objectives.
